» Introducing the David Ricardo School of Business at European-American University

A different approach to business education

What if a business school was run with the principles of business first and foremost rather than those of the educational establishment? The result would look radically different from any other business program on offer today.

To start with, it would put the client's needs - that's you, the student - first, not those of the faculty, the teaching unions or government social engineering programs. That would mean an unparalleled level of flexibility, even down to the possibility of designing your own program structure. Then it would look at the #1 priority of its students and their employers - individual, tailored and relevant response, recognizing your existing level of attainment without requiring you to sit through material you already know, and taking you beyond your current competencies through a program grounded in your workplace and integrated seamlessly into your professional life.

The result would be a revolution in business education. It would be an end to one-size-fits-all educational solutions and the beginning of real student empowerment.

In 2007, a new online business school opened its doors, strongly based on libertarian and private sector principles and with the vision to see beyond the present constraints and socialist rhetoric that prevent higher education from performing to its full potential. As a determined alternative to the current establishment, the David Ricardo School of Business at European-American University is fully private, and is not controlled or regulated by government or quasi-government bodies. That independence makes it unique in outlook and profile. It means that it is free from the regulatory constraints and vested interests that stand between the universities and their market. Where mainstream higher education is still getting used to the idea that higher education is a marketplace and students consumers, the David Ricardo School of Business takes these concepts as its founding principles.

One of the most flexible MBAs on offer today

All programs offered at the David Ricardo School of Business are delivered by 100% non-residential distance learning. There is no requirement for campus attendance at any time, and students are accepted from many countries. A lifestyle which involves constant travel is no barrier to study, providing contact with the student's mentor can be maintained. Enrolments are accepted throughout the year and there is no set start date imposed. Nor are there minimum or maximum enrolment periods, although experience shows that the majority of students will need to spend at least a year enrolled before they are ready to graduate.

The online Master of Business Administration degree is a program intended for the experienced business practitioner who seeks an academic qualification directly tailored to their workplace requirements. The relationship of project and mentor-based learning, formal coursework and dissertation is individually decided, and previously-gained professional qualifications can count for prior learning credit. A Bachelor's degree is not a formal requirement for entry to this program where an appropriate professional qualification is held or where experiential learning is the equivalent of a bachelor's degree. For the senior business executive in a decision-making role the Executive MBA offers a fast-track route either through coursework, or continuous assessment and a major project.

The MBA can be customized to the individual needs and requirements of the student. For those who prefer the structure of a taught course, there are specialist MBAs offered in Corporate Finance, Property Management and Strategic Marketing Management.

Other degrees offered include the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), as well as the MPhil and PhD in business related areas. Subject areas include Business Ethics, Economics, Development Economics, International Economics, International Law, Management Information Systems, Modern Banking and Finance and Public Sector Economics, all subject to availability. If a program is not already available, it may be possible to design one tailored to the needs of the student.
